The <BD>Preferences</BD> dialog provides you with the means for controlling the appearance of a given board and pieces setting. Available features include:
<BD><COL=RED>Board Colors<NM>:
On the left corner of the dialog you will find a colored area previewing the current selection for the colors of the board. The board display is composed of four colored areas: light squares, dark squares, border, and letters. Clicking on a particular colored area on the left brings up the <BD>Standard Color Picker</BD> dialog where you choose a color to correspond with that area on the board.
Pressing <BD>OK</BD> in the <BD>Standard Color Picker</BD> dialog changes the corresponding colored area in the preview section according to your most recent entry. The preview section provides a quick means to assess the resulting color composition from within the <BD>Preferences</BD> dialog. If you are not satisfied with the outcome change it to your liking.
<BD><COL=RED>Orientation<NM>:
Use this popup menu to change the orientation of the players on the board. There are four possible orientations corresponding to the four corners of the board. The yellow dot represents the initial position of the White player versus the blue dot representing the Black player.
<BD><SIZE=12><COL=BLUE>Pieces<NM>:
Four separate popup menus allow you to choose the icons representing Kings and Pawns for both players. The shape, size and color of pieces enable you to distinguish between the players and between the King and Pawns. You may wish to choose related groups of icons for easier identification of pieces, although you are not limited to any particular combination.

Click the <BD>OK</BD> button in order to affect the current board display, <BD>Cancel</BD> to retain the previous setting. Note that these changes affect only the session in progress unless you save them in a setting. See the Help entry for <BD>Settings</BD>... for more details
